Mrs Oosthuizen, Mrs Martin and Mrs Leversha and took the Year 6 pupils on a residential trip to Stratford-upon-Avon just before the summer half term break. They all had a marvellous time away and the staff reported that the children were delightful. The Year 6 group benefited from wonderful experiences and they were eager to enjoy each one fully. The children shared the highlights of the trip during an assembly when they returned. While it didn’t seem so at the time; they particularly appreciated the terrifying torments in the dungeons at Warwick Castle! This is always one of the favourite encounters at the Castle and staff usually emerge from this experience crying with laughter, while pupils seem immensely relieved that all have survived! Children spend much of the rest of the day chattering about their half an hour or so of terror!
The performance of the Merchant of Venice at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre was a favourite too and it is certainly a memorable production. The Director, Rupert Goold, cast none other than Sir Patrick Stewart OBE as Shylock and the setting was Las Vegas! The production was full of pace and energy, interspersed with bit of Elvis here and there. This was a very unusual interpretation with a definite ‘Little less conversation, little more action’, but it worked to provide excellent entertainment from start to finish! Mrs Oosthuizen, Mrs Martin and Mrs Leversha were so proud of the children, as their behaviour was excellent, and they demonstrated a very positive attitude and genuine interest in all of the activities. As ever, they were pleased to have received numerous positive comments about the children while we were away.
