Our School community consists of three key groups of people: the children, the parents and the staff. We recognise that for our children to make good progress and to succeed, there needs to be a good relationship among the three key groups, with each fulfilling reasonable expectations to work to that end. At Talbot House, the parents and School enjoy a very good partnership and shared vision, and the children work hard, which is why our School community is so successful. We have a Talbot House Home-School agreement whereby what is generally considered reasonable and appropriate is formalised in a written document and is signed by the School, parents and children.
Working in partnership with parents is of major value and importance to THPS in enabling it to provide a happy, caring and stable environment for children. We aim to form a good relationship with parents so that information regarding their children (be it developmental, emotional, social or health related) can be exchanged easily and comfortably by staff and parents.
At THPS, we operate an open door policy with parents. If parents have any queries on a day-to-day basis, they are encouraged to have an informal word with the Class Teacher at the end of the day or they may set up an appointment if required. Parents are able to contact the Head teacher with any serious concerns. In addition, the School sends out a weekly newsletter and other notes to parents to keep them abreast of activities, topics, events and relevant issues. All letters and information can also be accessed via the School website.
Parents are given more formal feedback about their children’s progress through the two reports issued each year; in the autumn and summer terms. They are also encouraged to attend the parent meetings that are held each term:
This is what our parents say…
(Please note that we have substituted the child’s name with ‘our child’ for privacy.)
Thank you for keeping the promises that you made to us when our child arrived as a small, somewhat shy little boy seven years ago. You promised to take good care of him, help him to realise his potential and to leave as a well rounded member of society. Well, a job well done on all fronts. He leaves you as a confident young man looking forward to starting grammar school in the autumn. You never promised the latter but delivered all the same. I am grateful to all of your staff, both present and past for their hard work and support. ……So, he leaves you with both sadness and gratitude, ready to face the next chapter of his life with so many advantages over his non-THPS peers. I know that he will look back on his time with you as some of the best days of his life.
Many, many thanks for providing such a wonderful school for our child to thrive in. Not only has she done so well academically, she’s also, from day to day, felt secure, confident and very happy – we can’t thank you enough for that. Thank you for all the support and encouragement – she has loved her time at THPS.
…thank you for the support that you and the school have shown this year in taking the time to understand our child and what is best for him. I continue to be pleased to be a part of the school community, and thank you from the heart for the warmth and welcoming smile that I always see and that greets the children each day – it goes such a long way.
We cannot thank you enough for giving our child such a wonderful time at Talbot House. The level of care and high standard of education has been first class. Thanks to your school we have watched him grow with confidence and ability over the last few years.
… thank you for all your hard work and devotion to all the children over the past school year.
Our child has had a great first year at THPS, she can’t wait to start Reception.
Thank you so much for inspiring, motivating and loving the children in your charge. We greatly appreciate everything you do…
Thanks for everything you have done for our child during his formative years at Talbot House. You and your staff have helped us lay solid foundations in his education and character, and we are so proud of how he is developing into a fine young man…he is absolutely ready for new challenges and with the foundation you have given him, we are sure he will meet them head-on. It has been 9 years that our family has been associated with Talbot House through both our children. Throughout that time your enthusiasm and passion for the children continues to impress us…..We are so pleased that we selected Talbot House to look after our children. The school has rewarded us with a level of education and worldliness for our children that could not be bettered anywhere. For that we are eternally grateful.
Thank you so much for all you have done with our child this year. She has grown in confidence. We cannot thank you enough.
Our child has loved being in your class and I have appreciated knowing that he is with a teacher who takes the time to get to know the children as individuals and treats them accordingly.
Thank you so VERY much for all the care and attention you’ve given to our child this year. She’s really loved being in your class and has always sung your praises whenever possible. We are very grateful to you for seeing her through to ‘big school’!
Our child loves going to school and that is clearly down to the organization, the experiences she has and the enthusiasm of yourself and your team.
