Nursery Report
Talbot House Preparatory School is of high quality; children make very good progress
towards the Early Learning Goals in all areas of learning.
Teaching is very good. Staff are enthusiastic and make learning fun.
They have a very sound knowledge of how children learn and the early years curriculum.
Planning is effective and the teachers use detailed and regularly updated assessments
to ensure that he planning covers all areas of learning equally and that appropriate
levels of challenge are provided. Staff use good open questions to encourage
the children to think and develop their language skills. They encourage the
children to express their feelings and ideas. There is a good balance of adult-directed
and free choice activities. Staff treat the children with respect and are
good role models. They are skilled at making the best use of time and resources,
adapting the space and meeting children's needs and providing a wide range of activities.
Leadership and management is very good. The Headteacher ensures that the school
is a happy environment for both children and staff. The Foundation Stage classes
are valued as an integral part of the whole school. The staff team are well-established
and well qualified, but continue to appraise and develop. The Headteacher
maintains the overview of the early years educational provision, but delegates planning
and assessment to the staff team, rightly recognising their skills in these areas.
She has correctly identified the need for the children to have better opportunities
to climb.
Partnership with parents is very good. They are provided with clear information
about the educational provision. Regular reports and parents evenings ensure
that they are kept up to date with their chidren's progress. They share information
regularly through home/school books and daily discussion. Parents are welcomed
into the setting to share their skills and ideas with the children and there is
a warm family feeling to the school.
