World War 1 Commemoration

09 November 2018

On Friday 9th November, 2018, we commemorated 100 years since the end of World War 1.

We wanted to mark the occasion with an event that could include every member of the school community. Therefore, during the week beginning Monday 5th November, everyone decorated a pebble with a poppy. On the Friday, we used all of the individual poppies to create a large, collective poppy in the playground. We will sent each child home with their poppy for them to place somewhere in the community. In order to raise awareness of the centenary, we will then be launching an Instagram site, encouraging people to send us a photo of any poppies that they find, before they replace them somewhere else in the community.

Hopefully, by creating an interactive memorial, we can help not only our children, but the wider community reflect on the significance of the centenary and reflect on the sacrifices made by our armed services for the freedoms that we enjoy today.
